Police raid busts 2 for cocaine sales at East Chicago bar | Crime and Courts

EAST CHICAGO — A raid at El Sombrero bar and an upstairs apartment Thursday night resulted in the arrest of two people on felony drug charges.

Cocaine sales were allegedly taking place inside the bar and an upstairs apartment, 2001 Broadway, according to a news release from the Indiana State Excise Police, the agency that executed the search warrants. 

The yearlong investigation began with a resident’s complaint, the release stated. 

Glorivette Bonilla, 40, of Hammond, was arrested in the bar during the search warrants being executed. Bonilla faces charges of dealing cocaine, a level 2 felony, and cocaine possession, a level 3 felony, according to police. 

Gustavo Ayala Zamora, 56, of East Chicago, was arrested in the upstairs apartment. He faces charges of dealing cocaine, a level 2 felony, cocaine possession, a level 5 felony, and maintaining a common nuisance, a level 6 felony, according to police. 

Additional criminal and administrative charges will be submitted at a later date as the investigation continues, police said.

Excise officers seized 35 bags of suspected cocaine and other items commonly used to process, dilute, package and distribute controlled substances, according to the release.

The Indiana State Excise Police were assisted by Homeland Security Investigations during the investigation and execution of the search warrants.
