Laguna Woods is booming this fall with opening of Aldi, Dollar Tree and 4 more businesses – Orange County Register

Business is popping in little Laguna Woods, with six new businesses that have either recently opened or are set to open by the end of the year.

Not only do these new businesses give residents a chance to try new products, services or foods, but the sales tax revenue to the city can help benefit the city’s general fund, Mayor Shari Horne said.

“It’s wonderful to see the city coming back to life — new restaurants, new blood, new food, new places to have good times,” Horne said. “I’m very excited; I think the (Willow Tree) shopping center renovation looks beautiful, and I think that’s why so much is coming back now.”

Laguna Woods, home to about 16,000 seniors, has the distinction of being one of Orange County’s smallest cities, occupying 3 square miles of land bordered by Aliso Viejo, Irvine, Laguna Beach and Laguna Hills.

Here’s a roundup of the new businesses that are opening their doors in Laguna Woods:

Aldi

The grand opening of Aldi in the Willow Tree Shopping Center took place on Thursday, Dec. 7 with a ribbon-cutting ceremony, store tours and giveaways for the public.

In the former Vons space, the discount supermarket known for its private label groceries says it can save shoppers up to 50 percent on their grocery bills.

The Laguna Woods store was the 47th supermarket to open since Aldi launched its first stores in the West in March 2016. Stores in Westminster and Monrovia also opened Dec. 7. By the end of the year, Aldi plans to have 54 stores open in Southern California.

The supermarket has items ranging from produce, meats and bakery items, in addition to a variety of other foods. Aldi also sells gluten free options, no-antibiotic and no-hormone meats, in addition to Hispanic favorites, according to the store’s website.
