Amazon’s superhero ‘The Tick’ brings ‘very weird show’ to Comic-Con 2017 – Orange County Register

He’s big, muscular and blue.

And with his chest heroically puffed out and hands planted firmly on his hips, this goofy but weirdly lovable bug may just take down every other superhero at San Diego Comic-Con.

“The Tick, I suppose he’s kind of a big kid. He’s a superhero, he embodies the spirit of what it is to be a superhero. When he’s stopping the bad guys, he’s on very safe ground and he knows exactly what he’s doing. And when he’s doing anything else, he’s really quite lost and confused,” said Peter Serafinowicz, who stars as the iconic blue superhero in Amazon’s new series “The Tick.”

The show, set to premiere on Amazon Prime Video Aug. 25, is a superhero parody with an enthusiastic cult following that marks the streaming service’s first venture into the genre.

The live-action series by original Tick creator Ben Edlund centers on the blue superhero with the constantly moving antennas and his loyal sidekick, an accountant named Arthur Everest (Griffin Newman), who realizes his city is owned by a global super villain long thought to be dead. So he teams up with the weird super bug to guard the city.

“It’s got a silliness about it that I don’t think any other show on TV has … but it kind of manages to be sweet and serious at the same time, and I think that’s one of the things I love about it,” Serafinowicz said during a break from filming in Brooklyn a couple of weeks before his Comic-Con appearance.

He will be joined in San Diego by Edlund, Newman and other cast members during panel discussions and at an autograph signing session on Saturday.
